When I attended the backdrop-painting workshop (see my previous blog post), I was very kindly gifted a beautiful blue Crown Prince pumpkin that was growing in Toria’s garden. Since bringing it home, I’ve had a bit of fun using it as a central prop in a few floral photo shoots.

My first arrangement was simple: dahlias, ivy, hawthorn and ribbons.

Fall was just beginning to arrive by the time I made the next pumpkin scene, so I chose yellow and white flowers, yellow birch leaves and golden pyracantha berries. I also thought it would be nice to include some silver foliage to match the pumpkin’s steely-grey skin.

I really wanted to use bright red for my next pumpkin photo, so I gathered marigolds, salvia, rudbeckia and red pyracantha berries. The wreath was made from crimson-coloured strawberry leaves and there are a few stems of deep red Nicotiana ‘Tinkerbell’ in the vase at the back.

I went with a different view for this celebration of autumnal colours. For this photo I used a hops vine, beech and forsythia branches, leaves from birch, locust, hawthorn and strawberry, some apples and crabapples, and a few sunflower and coreopsis blooms.

I’ll be creating a few more pumpkin scenes (with grasses and dried flowers) before it’s finally time for pumpkin soup!
